FINISHED (Sort of)

So I've finally got it all done. It's ironed, it's been flipped now all that is needed is for it to be mounted onto the board :D

From using this for the pixels:

To this for the colours (roughly):

And finally the finished piece:

Now the question I've been asked is would I do it again? The answer is probably not on this scale. But seeing as I've just got my hands on some MINI hama beads....

And even closer still....

Yes, it's almost been a month with not very much to report, mainly because I've been waiting for the board that it's going to be mounted onto to be covered. Well now I have no excuse. The board's been covered. I ironed the anchor earlier today inbetween having hissy fits at the iron and the fact that the beads were having a 'we don't want to stick together' mood. All I can say is that thank god once this is mounted, no one will see the back of it and the mess it's in. My next challenge is how I get the damn thing on the board because I pealed it off the 22 boards, still the wrong way round....this could be a very difficult opperation indeed....

Getting closer still...

Well, I'm getting even closer to completion of this project:

So the next step is to iron it...which could be a problem on it's own (well, except the B's because they are already done :D) but I won't be able to do that until I get what it's being mounted onto... Getting excited to see the end of this :D

Getting closer to completion....

So, this is just a little update to show how quickly I've came on with the project:

So, it's almost finished except for me having to work out the lettering for the bottom of the anchor. I've got one of the B's done (not shown here) but once again, I've run out of beads (mainly the yellow) and boards (I know it doesn't look it but I'm using the oblong ones here but will need the square ones when it comes to iron it out....yes...just how am I going to iron this?

A little planning error.....

Well actually, it's the second planning error for this project. The first was not having enough boards but then again I don't think I thought that it was going to end up being the size that it is. But that seems to be sorted now cause my extra boards turned up yesterday so it was all go to try and get more of it done, when I hit another problem. I ran out of black beads! So of course, without the black beads I can't do the outline and therefore losing count of what line I'm on. I was 99.9% certain that I had ordered more when I put the HUGE order in the last time but it turns out that I only ordered the colours that I thought I was going to need for the original image and there was very little black in that.

So I did a run into Hobbycraft to try and get some and they have none!! None whatsoever! So now I'm back to waiting patiently for my supply to arrive. So crossing fingers and toes that I might get it finished this weekend :D

Sum of 4 hours work....

So Friday night I finally sat down and made a start on this project. Problem is, I don't know how big this is going to end up! This picture was taken on Friday when I final gave in for the night:

The problem that I now have is that by continuing it today, I've ran out of boards!! So going to have to invest in some pronto in order to get this done....the next hurdle to overcome is what I'm going to do with it once it's completed! I mean, I know I'm going to iron it but how I'm mounting or framing...that's a different story!

Problems, problems and did I say problems?

So I’ve been trying to make start of either one of the project without much success. Trying to get a size that I can work with as well as keep the text in has become damn near impossible to the point where we’re thinking that if I can get it as small as possible but still able to put in the text in as bead, then I may have to do it in segments, fusing smaller bits but leaving enough to fuse everything together…so yeah, god knows the size either of these projects is going to be

In sadder news, I won’t be able to do the original logo that I intended to do. It’s just proved too difficult for me at the moment so I think that I am just going to go with the older version of the logo and see how that goes. Again, the size thing is causing me concern but hopefully I’ll be able to work something out and these will be done for August.

There are tweleve thousand different coloured beads.....

So I made a start in getting my required beads for the project. Standing in the middle of Hobbycraft with a colour chart and arguing with my mum over what would go best. So finally got that sorted and decided to stop myself having to dive through mixed colours, that I would buy a wee box to keep them in too. So now I have my colours finalised,I can now buy en mass because I also need a few more boards as well a thousands of more beads. I reckon the twelve thousand I have at the moment will let me get started while I wait for the rest to arrive and then I can really get focused on it.

Another project....

So...I've not even started Project:Anchor when I've been asked to undertake another one. It's for the same occasion except I think I'll be able to do this within a week...if I get the colours and other items quickly. So what I've been asked to do is this:

It's a lot simpler than the other one, seeing as it is only 5 colours so I reckon a week/weekend could see this one done.

I also finally retrieved my other lot of beads from my other home, so I now have a good idea of what I'm going to need (and even if I don't need it I'm sure it will find it's way into other projects at a later date :p Still haven't managed to graph the first but might end up working with pixels instead. If I worked with pixels then I would be able to include the Sure & Steadfast on the anchor, instead of having to write on the beads afterwards but we'll wait and see what happens.

First things first

So to get things moving, I've already taken the badge and made myself a colour chart, based solely on the colours that the image has given me. The trouble is that, while there is a large selection of colours within the hama bead range, there are some colours that I just can't get.

So armed with my colour chart, I've headed off to a local crafts store that I know has a large range of the beads to allow me to compare the colours and see what ones I can substitute for what, and what I can get as close as possible. Now that I've done that, all that's left is for me to order them in bulk and then plan how I'm going to tackle this mammoth task inbetween everything else....

The challenge has been set...

On the 4th October 2008, the Boys Brigade will celebrate it's 125th anniversary since the first company was started in Glasgow, Scotland in 1883. Because of this, I have been given the challenge of re-creating this badge:

in Hama beads (that is, little plastic beads that you then fuse by running a iron over them). I suspect that it's going to take me at least a month or more between planning and finishing the item. I have no idea what size this is going to end up being, but I have feeling that it's going to be big.

This blog is likely to be used in order to keep track of my progress allowing you to see if I can make my target and finish this on time.
