There are tweleve thousand different coloured beads.....

So I made a start in getting my required beads for the project. Standing in the middle of Hobbycraft with a colour chart and arguing with my mum over what would go best. So finally got that sorted and decided to stop myself having to dive through mixed colours, that I would buy a wee box to keep them in too. So now I have my colours finalised,I can now buy en mass because I also need a few more boards as well a thousands of more beads. I reckon the twelve thousand I have at the moment will let me get started while I wait for the rest to arrive and then I can really get focused on it.

Another project....

So...I've not even started Project:Anchor when I've been asked to undertake another one. It's for the same occasion except I think I'll be able to do this within a week...if I get the colours and other items quickly. So what I've been asked to do is this:

It's a lot simpler than the other one, seeing as it is only 5 colours so I reckon a week/weekend could see this one done.

I also finally retrieved my other lot of beads from my other home, so I now have a good idea of what I'm going to need (and even if I don't need it I'm sure it will find it's way into other projects at a later date :p Still haven't managed to graph the first but might end up working with pixels instead. If I worked with pixels then I would be able to include the Sure & Steadfast on the anchor, instead of having to write on the beads afterwards but we'll wait and see what happens.

First things first

So to get things moving, I've already taken the badge and made myself a colour chart, based solely on the colours that the image has given me. The trouble is that, while there is a large selection of colours within the hama bead range, there are some colours that I just can't get.

So armed with my colour chart, I've headed off to a local crafts store that I know has a large range of the beads to allow me to compare the colours and see what ones I can substitute for what, and what I can get as close as possible. Now that I've done that, all that's left is for me to order them in bulk and then plan how I'm going to tackle this mammoth task inbetween everything else....

The challenge has been set...

On the 4th October 2008, the Boys Brigade will celebrate it's 125th anniversary since the first company was started in Glasgow, Scotland in 1883. Because of this, I have been given the challenge of re-creating this badge:

in Hama beads (that is, little plastic beads that you then fuse by running a iron over them). I suspect that it's going to take me at least a month or more between planning and finishing the item. I have no idea what size this is going to end up being, but I have feeling that it's going to be big.

This blog is likely to be used in order to keep track of my progress allowing you to see if I can make my target and finish this on time.
